E-Commerce Platforms For Your Home Business

ecommerce
January 20th, 2015

E-commerce is growing faster every year, so it makes sense for most home businesses to jump on the bandwagon. If you sell any kind of physical product, it’s worth investing in an E-commerce program to help you reach the worldwide audience more easily.

There are a few popular e-commerce programs for your home business to choose from. At the end of the day it’s mainly about preference, but you may find that some programs have certain features or capabilities that suit your business much better than others.

Here are a few of the most popular to check out.

Magento

This company has been around for a while now, and don’t seem to be going anywhere too soon. Their platform is constantly being upgraded, as they realize that the world is changing too fast to stay the same for long.

One strength that Magento has is its ease of use. It’s easy to put a product up for sale in its marketplace, receive and process orders, and even do returns. You don’t need to spend too much time with it before you’re up and running with your store.

Another good thing is that Magento works on all devices- computers, phones and tablets. So even if your customer starts adding a few things to their cart and walks away, they can always order it later from another device.

Shopify

This is another very popular e-commerce platform, and has been around for some time. That’s partially due to their dirt-cheap pricing and customizable store design.

Shopify is a great option for newer businesses that are still getting off the ground. Because their costs are low, you don’t have to worry about your overhead going up just for an online store.

They currently claim that they’re running over 120,000 businesses, which says a lot about the quality of their program.

NetSuite

NetSuite isn’t the most popular platform out there, but it’s still pretty big. Their major claim to fame is that their service offers multiple different things. You can do all of your accounting, store creation and order fulfillment with their system.

NetSuite is an international company, so they don’t restrict your customers to using just one or two types of currency. You can receive in any currency your customers are willing to pay, which is a convenience that many platforms don’t currently have.

Amazon

Yup- the big daddy of e-commerce allows you to sell your stuff on their site!

Granted- it takes some time to master Amazon. Most products are found through a search engine, so you will need to learn a bit about keywords and optimizing your listing if you want to get that free traffic.

But the biggest advantage of Amazon is that free traffic. They don’t have the greatest, most user-friendly system in the world for running your e-commerce business. But since they do have access to a few BILLION credit cards, it’s worth looking into.

Conclusion

There are other options out there, like eBay and Vendio. The problem is that there are a lot of players in this game, so it’s tough to just talk about the best of the best.

The best way to choose your e-commerce platform is to look at a few, try out their capabilities and see what you think. Once you’ve had a few days with each one, it will be an easy decision and then you can move on to more important things!
