How Pinterest Can Grow Your Business

Pinterest is a phenomenon that simply exploded a few years ago. Its simplicity, ability to help tens of millions and unique way of connecting people is what made it the success that it is today.

But what is Pinterest? How can it help promote your home business? After all, it’s just a site that people go on to waste time, right?

Nope- it’s a lot more than that.

What is Pinterest?

The core of the website is based around “pins”. Each pin is basically a picture of some kind that was “pinned” by someone else.

What happens is that when someone pins something, they put it into a few categories. They may also give it a description, identifying what it is, where it came from, etc.

Once it gets pinned, people all over the world using Pinterest may see it. They usually find it by looking in the same category or being connected to the person who pinned it.

But here’s where it gets neat- you can “re-pin” something yourself. This allows you to find it again later very easily, and also lets you share it with your friends.

So… What’s the Big Deal?

People use Pinterest for a lot of different things. Some only stay in the Humor section, looking at funny things that other people have pinned. They may be memes, animal pictures, funny screenshots or text messages, or hundreds of other things.

Lots of people use Pinterest for recipes. Whether you just want to find something fast or have specific dietary needs, Pinterest can help.

It’s also popular for motivational fitness pictures, crochet patterns, Top 10 lists and a lot more.

What makes so many people addicted to it is being able to quickly find things you’re interested in (but didn’t have to create yourself) and sharing it with friends and family. It’s a good way to pass the time, whether it’s a few minutes or few hours.

How Can a Business Use it?

Remember how pins can get re-pinned and shared with more and more people? This can make it an excellent source of spreading your brand’s name and getting people to come to your website.

For example, let’s say you run a fitness coaching business. The clients you’re looking for are already in shape and into fitness, but also want to keep learning more and getting better.

You can start pinning motivational fitness posters, before/after pictures of some of your clients, and workout routines. As long as they make sense, look good and help people, they’ll get re-pinned by people looking at those categories.

As people see more of your pins, they’ll get interested and go check out your website. From there, they may become a client or refer you to someone they know that wants to step up their game.

This doesn’t just work for fitness either. If you help people lose weight, you can most motivational quotes and healthy recipes. If you’re in e-commerce, you can post pictures of clients using your products in fun ways.
